They can then be crafted with 1,000 of a metal to form a cladifier of that metal, which can be used to change the default iron metal material of a Poseidon, Neptune, Binglehopper, Minnowclad, Steamclad Minnowfish, or Steam Titan into the metal used in the cladifier.
