Nova Balreska is a democratic faction born out of the defeat of the Verdantine Sovereignty, when the Verner Expedition, supported by Whitecrest, took control of Verdantium and established a new nation out of the occupants of Fort Verner and the ex-Verdantines. It is ruled by a Chancellor elected every 3 months, with the Admiral as the second-in-command and leader of the navy.
History
Formed from the Verner Expedition's navy after it successfully defeated and conquered the Verdantine Sovereignty, the first Chancellor of Nova Balreska was Kagaros, with subsequent terms and Chancellors being elected through elections once every 3 months. A small group known as the Verner Expeditionary Militia Force, which had helped the Verner Expedition in its war, was given the old island of Fort Verner, whereupon it renamed itself Hallengard, the island was renamed to fit, and it was declared a vassal of Nova Balreska.
Conflict over Hallengard
Despite the close origins of Nova Balreska and Hallengard, friction would later arise between the two factions over the vassal status of Hallengard, a tension that would hit its peak in August of 2016 when Hallengard was invaded and conquered by the Blackwind Pirates under the leadership of Pirate King ExtremeFireTroll, becoming his own vassal. Due to the presence of the pirates, Whitecrest offered its support in helping Nova Balreska drive out the pirates from Hallengard, and continued to assist in the war until Blackwind decided to abandon the island. With the pirates gone, Whitecrest backed out of the war, however Hallengard and Nova Balreska would continue to fight until Hallengard was at last defeated and once again returned as a vassal to Nova Balreska. However, this victory for Nova Balreska would be short, as in January of 2017 Whitecrest demanded Nova Balreska release Hallengard and grant its independence, a demand which Chancellor WilkosGaming agreed to.
The Northern Confederation
Nova Balreska would once again shift its relationship with Hallengard in 2017 with the infamous attempted coup of FlipppyySr, caused by Purshovia's intervention in Nova Balreska under the leadership of david89091. The rebels needing to escape were helped by Hallengard while Nova Balreska gained support in the form of Whitecrest. The rebellion would be put down with the execution of FlipppyySr in Fort Gallant alongside fellow rebel leaders. Following this, Chancellor david89091 would form the Northern Confederation with Hallengard. A confict would spark when Maroufix, the Grand Sea Lord of the Navy, was attacked by Whitecrest, leading to war between the factions. The Northern Confederation would see success in the first part of the War with Whitecrest, capturing Fenwick and taking Prisoners of War from the home island of Whitecrest after an invasion. All but one of the prisoners would be executed, with the last one being Admiral sebseb12345678910, who managed to escape from the execution in time. Seeing the crimes against humanity committed by the Northern Confederation, Burkeland would decide to intervene on the side of Whitecrest, capturing Freyr ianlegendstone of Hallengard and forcing the alliance to surrender.
Rhonor's Folly
After the war, the Northern Confederation would exist for the rest of the year, but would eventually be disbanded by Chancellor Rhonor. Chosen due to a political struggle inside of Nova Balreska forcing the previous leadership to step down, Rhonor would use a claim of Hallengard hostility to disband their alliance with them. Later in the year, a Whitecrest Naval Ship attacked Rhonor and his Admirals while on the Sea, resulting in the War of Rhonor's Folly. This conflict would be a disaster for the faction, losing many members of the leadership throughout the war. The war drew to its close when Whitecrest blockaded, invaded, and fired at the island of Verdantium for multiple days, leading to heavy casualties on the Nova Balreskan side, including Rhonor, who would be killed inside of Fort Gallant. Nova Balreska soon surrendered and would later fall into an attempted takeover by Pavalox. Admiral xxXNIEGEXxx became Chancellor at the war's end, resulting in the Whitecrest annexation of Perth.
Government Reform and its Consequences
During the second term of Chancellor FlipppyyJr, Nova Balreska held a vote for a government reform to address the long instability stemming from the War of Rhonor's Folly, in which elections would be removed in favor of a "General Assembly", who would be responsible for regulating the Chancellor, and should the need arise would have the power to impeach the Chancellor. However, after the impeachment of FlipppyyJr, the powers of the General Assembly were eroded by the following chancellors until its eventual dissolution by Chancellor cholaso, resulting in Nova Balreska's infamous period of coups and rebellions due to now being the only way to remove a Chancellor from power.
Cholaso and the Chancellors after him would find themselves in conflicts that would have major and minor impacts on the Grand Isles, with most of these conflicts being either coups and rebellions in Nova Balreska, or the occasional war with Whitecrest over Perth. The War with Burkeland with stood out from all of them, in which Nova Balreska assisted multiple colonies of Burkeland in their rebellion against it, which proved to be a disaster on all fronts bar one. One particular archipelago called Nassau would declare its own rebellion, with Chancellor cholaso and his Admirals seeing the oppertunity and sent Admiral cheeze587 to aid the rebels. The operation would end in a semi-success with the Whitecrest supported Duke fleeing the islands, and Nassau declaring independence but the bulk of the Nova Balreskan forces would become casualties.
Return to Stability
The system of dictatorship Nova Balreska found itself under would continue for half a year until the coup against Chancellor pancakesandsyrup12, in which Grand Sea Lord Davisboy2 overthrew the government with the assistance of Whitecrest and restored democracy, electing the former Admiral, BakIava as their first new democratic Chancellor. Under his and FlipppyyJr's new terms, Nova Balreska would dominate the Grand Isles conquering most of the known map, however this would not last forever as with great expansion came enemies with it, resulting in Nova Balreska gaining the ire of Whitecrest, Nassau, and the return of Purshovia with the infamous Admiral Marochev. Though the faction nearly split in two over this ravaging, Nova Balreska managed to pull through as one, and continues on to this day.

- The spawn-island of Nova Balreska is named Verdantium, eponymous of the former faction, the Verdantine Sovereignty.
- Nova Balreska takes its name after the origin of the settlers to Fort Verner, who were members of a Balreskan refugee expedition to escape their war-torn and razed homeland.

- The faction is known for its historic instability. During the War of Rhonor's Folly in Autumn 2018, Chancellor Rhonor was killed, SaiIingAway resigned, and Davisboy2 was captured, leading to a temporary Admiral Junta consisting of xxXNIEGEXxx, PancakesandSyrup12, and un1que1012. Ultimately, Admiral xxXNIEGEXxx was chosen to be Chancellor after the war's end. This series of events is rivaled as the most rapid changes in leadership only one-- January 2020 saw Chancellor Cholaso die due to an accident, FlenTiX ousted, and cheeze587 captured by Whitecrest, leaving PancakesandSyrup12 as the only viable candidate for the Chancellery.
