This weapon was designed during the military trials of the Firelance by the Inyolan Navy. Late Emperor Piao was dismissive of the necessity of a boarding weapon, suggesting a "handheld cannon" would be too fragile, heavy, and clumsy to provide usefulness in a close quarters encounter. His military advisors were well aware of the tactical advantage the adoption could bring -- especially in handling then frequent skirmishes with pirates -- and ordered a golden Firelance be forged. The weapon was presented to Emperor Piao by his advisors for a personal test, and after firing the weapon, Piao was impressed with the effectiveness of a weapon that could "breathe fire and spit metal", as if he was arming his navy with actual dragons. Piao demanded the immediate production of the standard military version of the weapon following the test.
