Hallengard
Hallengard is a tribal faction that resides upon Isle Hallengard (currently known as "Fort Verner"). Hallengard was a nation comprised of mercenaries, former pirates, and former citizens of the Verdantine Sovereignty who fled there following the Verner Expedition's victory. It was originally a vassal of Nova Balreska, but broke free not long after its creation. It was temporarily controlled by the New Purshovian Trading Company (NPTCo), which established a Governorship over the island for several months. The company eventually left the island and released control of Hallengard after the retirement of its Governor, BeccyTurner. Hallengard continued to operate under the leadership of a Hersir, who commanded both diplomacy and the navy, until October 2020, when its navy was disbanded and the faction was annexed by Nova Balreska. Despite its annexation, Hallengard remained playable in-game and spawns on the island of Fort Verner.

Game Description: "Hailing from the desolate northern land of Balresk, these once-feared warriors sought refuge on the island of Fort Verner. Hallengard's four clans now vie for power for what little territory they have left. Will they embrace modernity? Or will they return to their violent ways as descendants of the A'u'kai?"
The island was briefly conquered in June 2022 by the Rogue Raiders pirate crew, instating themselves as the new Hallengard - Marking the start of the era of pirate-controlled Hallengard in which Blackwind Pirates crews could reform the faction for themselves or simply place it under Blackwind rule. Later this system ended late December 2024 when the developers reinstated the navies for Hallengard and Nassau, marking the end of the pirate-controlled Hallengard.
Currently, this faction is controlled by four clans - Bear Clan, Boar Clan, Elk Clan, Wolf Clan.

Trivia
- Hallengard has a predominantly Viking theme.
- Hallengard's navy was unique in having a trial-by-combat rank challenging system, in which members would challenge their superiors in PvP duels in order to advance through the ranks above the rank of thegn (midshipman) all the way up to the rank of Hersir, the faction leader.
- Hallengard is able to raid enemy factions similarly to the Blackwind Pirates, in which stolen cargo is given a bonus to the money earned when sold. In the past, these bonuses would have disappeared if Hallengard were to become friendly towards another nation.
- Following Hallengard's annexation by Nova Balreska, the island of Isle Hallengard was renamed to "Fort Verner" in reference to the original name when it was owned by the Verner Expedition, the first occupants of the island before Hallengard.
- Hallengard was originally controlled by a Freyr, who was replaced by the Governor under the New Purshovian Trading Company. The rank of Freyr was not reinstated after the NPTCo left Hallengard and instead the Hersir, formerly the rank of the second-in-command, was established as the highest commanding rank in the faction.
- The last leader rank prior to disbanding in 2020 was "Elder," being modified September 2020, shortly before the faction was annexed. When the faction was reformed by the Rogue Raiders, the rank was renamed to "Warchief." After the pirate uprisings in July 2023, once the Ravens of Odin reformed the faction, the leader rank once again got renamed, now to "Chieftain." The leader rank name is reverted back to "Elder" when Hallengard Navy is reformed in December 2024, along with new ranks and structure.
