It is ruled by a Chancellor elected every 3 months, with the Admiral as the second-in-command and leader of the navy.

Nova Balreska is currently a Republic for the second time now in it's history. In the fallout of Rhonor's War of Folly and weak governments after the war lead to that in late 2018 Nova Balreska held  a vote during the second tenure of FlipppyyJr. The government system was reformed to remove the elections in favor of a short-lived "General Assembly" who would regulate the powers of the Chancellor and could vote to initiate an impeachment process should they believe the Chancellor is unfit to rule. However after the impeachment of FlipppyyJr by the General Assembly, all forms of democracy were removed from the nation, following a transition into Dictatorship during the leaderships of The_VoidSource, ShadowEngineer and Cholaso. During this time the amount of political struggle expended greatly in Nova Balreska, with coups and rebellions largely being how Chancellors were removed from power, with the amount being greater then even before the Dictatorship. The history of military coups and rebellions in the nation's history continue to impact the nation to this day.  

Formed from the Verner Expedition's navy after it successfully defeated and conquered the Verdantine Sovereignty, the first Chancellor of Nova Balreska was Kagaros, with subsequent terms and Chancellors being elected through elections once every 3 months. A small group known as the Verner Expeditionary Militia Force, which had helped the Verner Expedition in its war, was given the old island of Fort Verner, whereupon it renamed itself [[Hallengard]], the island was renamed to fit, and it was declared a vassal of Nova Balreska.

Nova Balreska's Dictator-Chancellors ended with PancakesandSyrup12, in a coup lead by his Grand Sea Lord Davisboy2 who with the help of future Chancellor BakIava and his cabinet restored democracy to Nova Balreska, starting what many players consider to be a Golden Age of the Faction. During this time the two Chancellors BakIava and FlipppyyJr dominated the [[Grand Isles]] with the creation of the famous "Balreskan Guard" which would inspire the [[Figureheads|Republic Guard Figurehead]]. Being defeated due to the [[Purshovian Federation|Purshovian]] Admiral Marochev and a coalition of most player factions working together to take down the Balreskans. After various conflicts Nova Balreska currently controls [[Verdantium (Island)|Verdantium]], [[Salem (Island)|Salem]], and [[Fort Verner]] (formerly Isle [[Hallengard]]).  

Despite the close origins of Nova Balreska and Hallengard, friction would later arise between the two factions over the vassal status of Hallengard, a tension that would hit its peak in August of 2016 when Hallengard was invaded and conquered by the Blackwind Pirates under the leadership of Pirate King ExtremeFireTroll, becoming his own vassal. Due to the presence of the pirates, Whitecrest offered its support in helping Nova Balreska drive out the pirates from Hallengard, and continued to assist in the war until Blackwind decided to abandon the island. With the pirates gone, Whitecrest backed out of the war, however Hallengard and Nova Balreska would continue to fight until Hallengard was at last defeated and once again returned as a vassal to Nova Balreska. However, this victory for Nova Balreska would be short, as in January of 2016 Whitecrest demanded Nova Balreska release Hallengard and grant its independence, a demand which Chancellor WilkosGaming agreed to.  

 

During the second term of Chancellor FlipppyyJr to reform the government, Nova Balreska held a vote for a government reform in which elections would be removed in favor of a "General Assembly", who would be responsible for regulating the Chancellor, and should the need arise would have the power to impeach the Chancellor. However, after the impeachment of FlipppyyJr, the powers of the General Assembly were eroded by the following chancellors until its eventual dissolution by Chancellor cholaso, resulting in Nova Balreska's infamous period of coups and rebellions due to now being the only way to remove a Chancellor from power. 

 

This system of dictatorship ended with the coup against Chancellor pancakesandsyrup12, in which Grand Sea Lord Davisboy2 overthrew the government with the assistance of Whitecrest and restored democracy, which Nova Balreska continues to use to this day.

The manny coups of FlipppyySr while he was alive and the Northern Confederation's aftermath. In the War of Rhonor's Folly in the Autumn of 2018, Chancellor Rhonor was killed, SaiIingAway resigned, and Davisboy2 was captured, leading to a temporary Admiral Junta consisting of xxXNIEGEXxx, PancakesandSyrup12, and un1que1012. Ultimately, Admiral xxXNIEGEXxx was chosen to be Chancellor after the war's end. This series of events is rivaled as the most rapid changes in leadership only one, in January 2020 saw Chancellor Cholaso die due to an accident, FlenTiX ousted, and cheeze587 captured by Whitecrest, leaving PancakesandSyrup12 as the only viable candidate for the Chancellery. The April of 2022 saw the Nova Balreskan leadership leave their position, leaving the Chancellor CptArmandoSalazar in charge of the faction alone as the "Supreme Admiral" of Nova Balreska.
