Hallengard is a formerly-democratic faction, ruled by a Hersir, which resides upon the Isle of Hallengard (formerly known as Fort Verner). Hallengard is a nation which was comprised of mercenaries, former pirates, and former citizens of the [[Verdantine Sovereignty]]. It was originally a vassal of Nova Balreska, but broke free not long after its creation. It was temporarily controlled by the New Purshovian Trading Company, which established a Governorship over the island for several months. The company eventually left the island and released control of Hallengard after the retirement of its Governor, BeccyTurner.

Hallengard was originally controlled by a Freyr, who was replaced by the Governor. After the NPTCo. left, the rank of Freyr was not reinstated and the Hersir, formerly the rank of the second-in-charge, was established as the highest commanding rank in the faction.
