In all respects spare for build cost, the Fox is an upgraded Beaver which provides the use of both a Size 6 Mortar and steam engine. The ability to go upwind with the engine—alongside the longer-range capability of the Mortar—make the fox an excellent trade ship that can still be used in combat to great effect.
Trivia
The Fox, alongside the Steam Goose, are the only trade ships in-game that are upgraded from previous ships to possess a mortar and steam engine.
