Gryphon

The Gryphon is a unique mortar ship which carries its mortars on the side rather than its bow, allowing for unique bombardment angles other ships cannot use. The Gryphon combines this unique mortaring with an extremely strong hull and a broadside of heavy cannons, unique among other top-level vessels which commonly use medium cannons. These characteristics make the Gryphon extremely dangerous to be caught to the side of, however that does not leave the Gryphon without its weaknesses. While the Gryphon is able to engage at ranges other heavy vessels cannot, it lacks in concentrated firepower due to the broadside only being useful in the mortar's blind spot, and its bow and stern are both completely vulnerable, making the Gryphon most effective when paired with other large ships with more concentrated firepower such as the Alliance or Camel.
